Current Vacancies:

Advice Services Manager – Welfare Rights and Employment 

Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday–Friday (9am–5pm). Part time hours may be considered as part of a job share.
Location:
Across Edinburgh bureaux (Dalmeny St, Dundas St, Portobello and Muirhouse), with occasional outreach work.
Salary:
£31,303.68 per annum.
Contract: Permanent.

Role summary

Citizens Advice Edinburgh is seeking an experienced Advice Services Manager to lead and quality-assure Welfare Rights and Employment advice services across the city. The role combines technical welfare rights and employment expertise, people management, and strategic oversight to ensure high-quality, compliant advice for clients and strong support and development for staff and volunteers.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide specialist oversight of welfare rights and employment advice, including complex case management up to National Standards Level 3

  • Ensure consistent, high-quality advice and accurate case recording through audits, case checking, training and coaching

  • Line manage and support staff and volunteers, including supervision, appraisals and ongoing development

  • Deliver and support CAB Adviser Training Programmes and Continuous Professional Development

  • Analyse management information and audit findings to improve practice and service delivery

  • Contribute to organisational strategy, service development and funding activity

  • Represent Citizens Advice Edinburgh in partnerships, forums and campaigning activity

  • Support monitoring, reporting and evaluation of outcomes for clients and funders

    Technical skills and experience

  • Expert knowledge of welfare rights and employment legislation and advice standards

  • Strong working knowledge of related advice areas, including housing, immigration, money, consumer and health

  • Proven experience handling complex welfare rights cases, appeals and tribunal work

  • Experience of quality assurance, auditing and compliance with national standards

  • Ability to train, coach and develop staff and volunteers

  • Strong analytical, reporting and IT skills

  • Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder-management skills
