Location
Across Edinburgh — in our bureaux at Dundas Street, Leith, Muirhouse, and Portobello
Shift Pattern
On-site: 9am–1pm or 1pm–5pm, Monday to Friday
Remote volunteering: Flexible opportunities, including evenings and weekends
Your Commitment
We’re looking for volunteers who can commit to:
8 hours per week
12 months after completing training
35 hours of annual development and learning (CPD)

What You’ll Do
As a Volunteer Adviser, you’ll:
Listen and offer compassionate support to people seeking help
Explore their situation and identify possible options
Provide accurate information and practical advice
Help clients create action plans and take the next step forward
Record cases clearly and confidentially
Work alongside experienced advisers and managers in a positive, learning environment
Who You Are
You don’t need to be an expert — just someone who cares. We’ll teach you the rest.
We’re looking for people who are:
Empathetic, open-minded and non-judgmental
Good listeners and clear communicators
Comfortable using IT and online tools
Reliable team players who can adapt to new challenges
Ready to learn, grow and make a lasting difference
Training and Development
Our training programme combines online learning with real-life experience. You’ll gain essential knowledge in benefits, housing, debt, employment and immigration — supported every step of the way by an experienced mentor.
You’ll also receive:

1:1 supervision and case reviews
