Veterans First Point (V1P)
CAE works in partnership with Veterans First Point (V1P) to provide a welfare rights and advice service for veterans and their families.
The project supports the aim of V1P to be a one-stop-shop for veterans, allowing access to a broad range of advice from one location.
Our experienced advisor provides advice on many issues including:
How can I access the service?
The service runs on a fortnightly basis from V1P’s Edinburgh base and serves both Edinburgh and the Lothians.
In order to referred for advice, clients must first be registered with V1P - this can be arranged by contacting V1P on 0131 220 9920.
More information, including address details is available here.
What other help is available at Veterans First Point?
Veterans First Point (V1P) is an information and support service for veterans and their families.
The services are for:
- Serving personnel transitioning to civilian life with a confirmed discharge date
- Veterans and their families
- Those who have served, either Regular or Reserve, and their dependants
- Members of the Merchant Navy who served in a commercial vessel in support of legally defined military operations, and their dependants.
Drop in sessions are available from 1pm - 4.30pm and 1:1 appointments are available 9am-5pm.
The service is staffed by a multidisciplinary mental health team with extensive experience of mental health and experience of the military. The team offers a range of evidence based psychological and pharmacological interventions.
Allocated Veteran Peer support workers help veterans and their families access a range of mainstream and third sector organisations to help with veterans welfare needs, whatever they may be. The veteran Peer Support Worker will not discharge clients from their care and will hold the case so if problems arise at a later date they can easily re-engage with the help available.
Other services and activities include hill walks, engagement in community events and physical health checks to promote general health and wellbeing and regular information and training events are held in the centre.
