Pensionwise Guidance Specialist (Full time, 35 hours per week)

Understanding what to do with your pension and how to get the most out of it can be one of the biggest decisions someone can make.  More often than not, the people coming to Citizens Advice in relation to their pension are overwhelmed by the language and choice of options.  Many people have also lost track of what pensions they have been paying into and the opportunities they could provide.

The UK Government has therefore funded Citizens Advice to provide the fee and impartial Pensionwise Service, providing guidance to people about their defined contribution pension options. 

As a result of continued demand, the UK Government has sought to extend this service, so that we can provide increased support and reach even more people.  This has included the development of telephone and online advice and an expansion in the number of face to face Guidance Specialists.  Citizens Advice Edinburgh are seeking to recruit an adviser to expand their face to face service in Edinburgh.

Successful candidates will have a solid background and proven knowledge of pensions law and practice and a thorough knowledge of pension products.  You will have excellent communications skills and an understanding and sensitivity to wider retirement issues.  You will be able to work in a variety of environments with a range of stakeholders and bring a flexible and creative approach to developing the service to meet the needs of people across Edinburgh.

Administrator (Full time, 35 hours per week)

Citizens Advice Edinburgh is a growing organisation, with a number of new services about to commence in 2019.  We need a flexible and experienced organisational administrator to join our team, working closely with the Projects Manager and Chief Executive to meet the administrative needs of the organisation. 

A can do attitude, with an ability to work independently and creatively to find solutions is a must.  Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential as is a comprehensive understanding and efficient use of all Microsoft programmes.

You will be joining a team of staff and volunteers who are dedicated to delivering services that help meet the needs of some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our society and who use their knowledge and expertise to campaign for change and social justice.  As an administrator, you will provide essential support in enabling us to carry out these activities.

Bureau Manager (Full time, 35 hours per week).

A unique opportunity has arisen to become a Bureau Manager with Citizens Advice Edinburgh.  These roles do not often present themselves, which is testament to the quality and job satisfaction of the role.

You will be joining an experienced team of 4 existing bureau managers and take on responsibility for the day to day management of our new premises in the Pilton and Muirhouse area of Edinburgh.  You will also take on responsibility for managing our existing team of 20 volunteers and for the growth and expansion of volunteer base and service offering in that community.

Your bureau will cover some of the poorest and most deprived communities in Edinburgh, but this is also a locality rich in culture and full of potential.  This role offers the unique opportunity to become part of the established and highly respected Citizen’s Advice Service in Edinburgh with the chance to design and develop a service in new and expanded premises, right in the heart of the community.  Over the last 6 months we have been working with other local charities to form a co-location partnership that will see at least 3 charities working together to utilise the vacant Pennywell Resource Centre and create a vibrant and much needed community resource. 

Successful candidates will have extensive knowledge and expertise of the advice sector, particularly in relation to Welfare Rights, Debt and Money Advice, Employment, Immigration and Housing.  Previous experience in managing and supporting volunteers will also be desirable. 

You will have highly effective communication skills and be confident to work independently in a management role.  You will have excellent written skills and be confident in Microsoft.  You will have experience in recruitment, selection and supervision of staff and volunteers and experience or a proven ability to train and coach others to learn new skills.  You will be flexible and able to support the development of this service with creativity and new ideas.

You will have excellent partnership building skills and make sure that Citizens Advice Edinburgh continues to play a prominent role in understanding and responding to the needs of this community. 

Most importantly, you will provide an excellent service to people in need in your community and uphold the confidence and reputation of the CAB network in providing high quality, efficient and effective services.

Universal Credit – Help to Claim – Welfare Rights Adviser (Full time and Part Time roles available)

Universal Credit was launched in Edinburgh in November 2018 and is one of the biggest Welfare Reforms, since the introduction of Personal Independence Payments.  This change will affect thousands of residents in Edinburgh. 

In October 2018 the UK Government announced that it would provide funding to the Citizens Advice Network to enable us to support people in our local communities through the process of claiming and transitioning onto Universal Credit.  As a result of this funding, Citizens Advice Edinburgh are able to recruit a team of dedicated Welfare Rights Advisers to help join our Help to Claim Team.

Successful candidates will have a solid background in Welfare Rights Advice and have an up to date knowledge of Universal Credit.  You will be an excellent communicator and be confident to work independently in a range of environments.  You will have excellent written skills and be confident in Microsoft.  You will have experience in training or coaching others to learn new skills.  You will be flexible and able to support the development of this new service with creativity and new ideas. Most importantly, you will provide an excellent service to people in need in your community and uphold the confidence and reputation of the CAB network in providing high quality, efficient and effective services.
